Business Development Executive – Pharmaceuticals


Our client is a multi-national pharmaceutical company and are looking for a New Business Development Executive. The Executive Business Development is responsible for identifying, negotiating, concluding and managing the end-to-end process of business development opportunities which focus on maximising market share, sales and operating profitability through M&A’s , in-licensing, JV opportunities and strategic partnerships within the framework of our client’s global and local business imperatives.

Minimum Requirements

Relevant Business Degree and 5-10 years experience in the pharmaceutical sector.

Role Description

Strategy Development

• Responsible for initiating ,pursuing and management of strategic business development projects and work within the BD Division for optimal output;
• Conducts research relating to organic and in-organic growth opportunities for Our client develops business cases indicating there business advantages
• Identify, negotiate and conclude strategic new business opportunities in line with the Company’s business development strategy;
• Negotiates and reviews Licensing agreements
• Serve as interface between the BD Division and internal / external customers;
• Interact on a strategic level with all Global teams
• Understand the market dynamics for the territory in order to optimize business opportunities.
• Support the Business Development Project Management system
• Directly responsible for integration and coordinating commercial input to specific programs as necessary
• Manages the coordination and administrative requirements relating to M&A’s, In-licensing , strategic partnerships, joint ventures and alliances, as well as technology and intellectual licensing opportunities

Gap/Wish List
• Keeping updated with GAP list and other strategic products/projects in the company;
• Research market information for appropriate vendor;
• Compare vendor product list vs. GAP list (GAP Analysis)/strategic product/project list;
• Manage, understand and maintain comparison reports (This is quite extensive as it requires being “up-to-speed” with all current projects to ensure that we are not licensing something that is in IPD, or licensing the same product from two different companies).

Business Cases
• Build Business Cases for each product /project , includes product sales and volume projections , competitor analysis , patent expiry , marketing priority , P+L’s
• Provide Business and Financial analyst with input for Valuations
• Research IMS/Tender market share projections and ensure that correct assumptions are applied for each project
• Generate projections report based on findings in conjunction with Marketing and Portfolio

Patent Searches
• Working closely with the Business Analyst on product patent searches on Newport Horizon Database;
• Providing input to Chief Scientific Officer on relevant product patent timeframe in order to release products into the Market asap.

Strategic Business Development -General tasks
• Analysing and updating Strategic Business Development projects;
• Tracking and reporting of agreements with status reports, corrective action steps when projects are running behind schedule;
• Agreements – liaise internally and with external partners regarding status of agreements;
• Follow-up and update on all agreements;
• Management of agreements from introductory phase until signature; Once agreements have been signed and agreed ensure “clause” agreements are followed through i.e. ensure the suspensive conditions are fulfilled timeously;
• Maintenance and Management of all contractual milestone payments to ensure timely payment;
• Accessing Strategic products/projects related to Tender Business with a special focus on cost reduction;
• During negotiating phase obtain regulatory checklists with principals to determine dossier compliance - discuss with regulatory;
• Arrange when needed the procurement of samples etc in order for Our client to initiate comparative dissolution studies;
• After the agreement is signed, assist with New Products Section to procure all additional data required before and during the dossier submission phase;
• Follow up on any delay in the above so as streamline with the dossier compilation period.

Customer and Stakeholder Management
• Coordinates adherence to customer and stakeholder policy and procedure
• Provides support and guidance to customers
• Adheres to customers SLAs
• Conducts audits on customer for compliance to governance and business procedures
• Engages and consult with all stakeholders to determine timelines for projects and reporting requirements

BD Financial Management
• Annual input into Function/Departmental CAPEX /OPEX business plan/budget
• Tracks monthly cost centre spend
• Generates monthly cost control report
• Reports on monthly project variances
• Active reporting and management of BD costs
• Develops financial business cases for all inorganic growth opportunities
